Day 13

Udawalawe (approx. 4 hrs. – 230km)

Udawalawe National Park is a national park in Sri Lanka that borders the provinces of Uva and Sabaragamuwa. With the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir, a sanctuary for wild animals was created. The park covers 32,315 hectares, which includes the reservoir, which contains microhabitats such as marshes, the Walawe River and its tributaries, woods, and open grasslands. The park is well-known for its distinctive appearance, which includes extensive areas of thick grass, bushes, and trees. This national park is home to elephants, sambar, chital, and wild boar, as well as a very small leopard population. It also has brown fish owls, grey-headed fish eagles, changeable hawk-eagles, crested serpent eagles, western marsh harriers, white-bellied sea eagles, shikras, black-shouldered kites, and common kestrels.

Udawalawe - Colombo (approx. 1 hr. - 35km)

After your wild encounters in Udawalawe, get ready to head back to Colombo. On your way, visit Tangalle and Galle for a quick tour in the two beautiful coastal towns. You can also visit the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery to witness Sri Lankan turtles. If you are lucky enough, you would even get the chance to release baby turtles to their natural habitat from the shelter.
